How to Volunteer

Throughout its history, the Grinnell Historical Museum has been operated by volunteers. We offer our volunteers a unique opportunity to utilize their skills and interests in the service of the community. We match assignments with the volunteers' available time and interests and provide training. It is also an opportunity to learn new things and make new friends.
  • During public hours, docents take guests on a guided tour of the Museum, describing the history of the house, provenance of the furnishings and appliances, and their use in an early 20th Century household.
  • Volunteers can help citizens and students with historical and genealogical research connected with Grinnell and Poweshiek County, Iowa.
  • They may also help cataloguing artifacts donated to the Museum and arranging exhibits.
  • They may help to arrange or participate in special programs and events, including musical performances, public readings of historical texts, or open houses.
  • During the summer, garden enthusiasts can employ their skills to beautify our grounds.
If you wish to contribute your services, please Contact Us and provide your name, address, telephone and e-mail address, and areas of interest and time you have available.

We thank all past volunteers for their unstinting devotion of time and effort to help preserve our history and make it come alive to visitors.
